Thirlestane is a magnificent 16th century castle set in a quiet meadow landscape. One of the oldest and finest inhabited castles in Scotland, Thirlestane is just 35 minutes south of Edinburgh. Throughout its long history, the castle has belonged to the Maitland family, one of the most famous in Scotland, and continues to be their home today.
Highlights of the tour include exquisite 17th century Dunsterfield ceilings in the State Rooms, the Duke’s Bedroom with its fine four poster bed, Bonnie Prince Charlie's room, the family portrait collection and the fascinating historic toy collection.
There is also a cosy tea room, gift shop, free parking and woodland walks.
